Artist information

◾️ The Shamisensists ◾️

The Shamisenists are a powerhouse Japanese instrumental trio blending tradition and innovation. Featuring two shamisen players (lead and bass) and a drummer, the band delivers electrifying live performances that captivate audiences worldwide. Signed to TRANSIST Records, they’re redefining Tokyo’s music scene with their explosive energy and genre-defying sound.

Led by Jack, a traditionally trained shamisen player and ESP Entertainment instructor, the lineup includes Yuji, the world’s first bass shamisen player, and Kyohei, a BONNEY DRUM JAPAN-endorsed drummer. Together, they fuse psychedelic rock, jazz, funk, heavy metal, and traditional Japanese scales, creating an unpredictable and dynamic soundscape.

Known for their raw, high-energy live shows, The Shamisenists unleash a torrent of electric shamisen riffs and heavy drum beats that push boundaries and ignite the crowd. Their third album, produced by LÄ-PPISCH’s Tatsu, explores themes of “regeneration” and “destruction,” reflecting Tokyo’s evolution in the 2020s. Whether on global tours or home stages, The Shamisenists continue to inspire with their bold musical vision.

In the same year, they made an electrifying appearance at France's massive metal festival, Motocultor Festival. Though they went on hiatus in February 2023, the band is set to make a powerful comeback with a nationwide tour kicking off in January 2025.

◾️ Madam Jan Band◾️

The leader of the band, Madam⚡Jan (*The actual pronunciation is “Yang” not “Jan” in English) was born in Osaka and is currently based in Tokyo. Mixing the Japanese-Showa-era songs, Jan's songs absorb a variety of genres, including classic rock, jazz, Latin, and bossa nova, and feature nostalgic melody lines with her unique worldviews.

The band members are Nobuhiro “Naga” Murata, a talented jazz drummer from Mie prefecture in Japan, and Julián “風利” Ferreira, a classic Japanese music researcher and double bassist from Colombia.

In the early summer of 2021, they released their album “Super Cinderella Super Express” under Madam⚡Jan’s former name Jan Frenzy, now available through online music distribution services such as Apple Music, LINE Music, and Spotify.

◾️ Maxime Kasasa ◾️

I would present my music as a Soulful symphony, blending alternative R&B rhythms with poetic Rap. Resonating emotions and authenticity in every beat.

With my debut EP, “5 Phases” I want to explore an introspective journey navigating different phases of a romantic relationship.

Allow me and some of my favourite musicians in Tokyo to take you on this jazzy journey.

◾ Too Sweet ◾️

Deza is an artist-producer hailing from Canada. The 26 year old artist currently works and lives in Tokyo. While his sound can be sporadic, there is an inclination to the jazzier productions with punchy vocals and deep layered bars. He considers his style to be laidback and comfy and is self described as ‘too sweet’ due to his love of sweet things and especially strawberry milk.
His last release, Nomad, was a project of grief, loneliness, and overwhelming feels that he had to let go of in order to move forward with his life and music. Since then he has been writing music for himself and other artists in the Japanese music sphere.
The most recent release, ‘Bonhomie Trip’ is a group tape featuring his close friends that he has worked with almost every week for 2 years. Fine-tuning his production and enjoying the collaborative process, the chopup sessions turned into a group called the Keio Mob.
The tape is a summer trip that he and his friends take musically. As expected the tunes are catchy, wavy, and easy to listen to.
Deza’s production inspiration comes from the likes of Kanye WestMetro BoominJ DillaNujabesMadlib, and The Kount. Rapping inspiration is from the likes of Capital SteezSabaDe La SoulNas, and Joey Bada$$. These artists were monumental in shaping deza into the artist he is becoming.
Deza is hoping to continue to collaborate with many artists to showcase his versatility but also explore his sound while also having it represent his life.
