Artist Introduction: BO-PEEP

Formed in Fukuoka, Japan in 2000, BO-PEEP has steadily developed as a force to be reckoned with in the Japanese punk scene. Vocalist and guitarist, Mika Yoshimura, tears a streak through the air with her fuzzed-out chainsaw guitars and psychotic rants. Drummer, Ryoko Nakano is utterly ballistic behind the kit. She plays as though she is literally a child pulling pins out of grenades and lobbing them into the distance in an attempt to cause as much disarray as possible.

Over 20 years into their career, causing disarray is precisely what these sheep herders do, especially now with support bassist Yuki Sujaku punishing the bass as if this stringed plank of wood stole his girlfriend or disrespected his mother. While it is fair to say that BO-PEEP could care less about being yours or your granny’s next favorite band, there is something undeniably catchy about their 100-mile-an-hour riffs and stick-it-to-the-man choruses. It has been enough to get the headbangers and moshers of the world to go mental up to now and there is no sign that BO-PEEP will stop anytime soon either. At the end of the day, Mika, Ryoko and Yuki are the bosses here and we dare you to say otherwise.

Catch them at their next gig May 29th with The Shamisenists and Tokyo Sapiens.
