◾The Mighty Burner◾️
Formed by Craig Chivers (artist / musician www.instagram.com/chiverscraig/ ) following a musical direction out of the Canadian 90’s jam band scene straight to traditional blues, roots, funk and psychedelic all the while maintaining more than just a passing flirtatious affair with what some people like to refer to as “jazz”. Moving to Tokyo a long time ago from countries far, far away he formed one of his long standing dream bands Grey Area, an instrumental Jazz / Rock trio but with the eventual dissolution of this band the reluctant artist was unwittingly thrown into a world of solo music performances with ever evolving tastes and set ups involving both acoustic and vintage analog electric instruments. While he now continues to perform solo and is hired to accompany many local acts being in demand for festivals, corporate events, bars, restaurants, and the like we arrive at the slow burning birth of The Mighty Burner. A global pandemic and then the ensuing slow cultural and economic recovery could not stop this inception. Early members of this evolving project mutated, grew glowing antenna and either melted or flew away, but through this tumultuous birthing process it was with Mika Sweetbeats, gospel / rock drummer extraordinaire from Kanagawa that the band was formed and hit the Tokyo indie music scene. The band took it’s fleshed out form as a trio with Nick Smith, from Las Vegas, on Bass who has an equally insidious array of influences and is much in demand with local celebrity status band FVRMN. Leading the band from his 1972, 60 string, made in West Germany, D6 Clavinet keyboard Craig and Co. will take you on a musical journey, but exactly where seems up to the ear of the beholder. Everyone who sees the Mighty Burner comes away with a different impression of what this band sounds like, what influences they present and exactly what direction they think we are heading in. Opinions may be divided but the consensus has been loud and clear from audiences left wanting for more from this highly original and unique sounding outfit. Forget your expectations and get ready to rock.
